A Place for My Coffee:
I confess! I am a coffee addict! And although I’m pretty much never without a cup of coffee in hand, sometimes I need to set it down. So, I’ve been on the lookout for some sort of tray for my coffee table.
Because my coffee table is the cushy ottoman type, I really needed to find a stable, flat, surface. Preferably, something prettier than whichever book I found lying around.
So, for weeks I’ve been shopping. I’ve been to TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Homegoods, back to TJ Maxx. But alas, I haven’t been able to find anything I like. At least nothing I like, at a price I am willing to pay. Then yesterday it hit me…why not make my own?
DIY Coffee Table Tray
I went out to the garage and grabbed a can of gold spray paint left over from another project, and a dollar store plastic basket which I had thrown in the donate box a few days ago.
I took my supplies out to the patio, put the tray in a cardboard box (to protect the patio), and started spraying.
This spray paint is amazing! It covered in just one coat. It didn’t puddle, pool or ripple. And, it really does adhere well to plastic.
The results were pretty impressive. And although I don’t think I would mistake the finish for an actual metal tray, my husband was fooled.
And because the plastic tray is small (approximately 12″), I can set it next to me on the couch, making my coffee even easier to reach.
So there you have it, my DIY coffee table tray. Now let’s see what else can I spray paint… 🙂
